Selina Trepp

“Selina is the motive force pushing stop-motion animation way beyond.”

Selina Trepp’s work concerns itself with ecology, economy and improvisation and how these concepts come together in practice. Finding a balance between the intuitive and conceptual is a goal. “If in doubt, be radical” is the best advice she ever received.

Living in Chicago alongside her husband, musician Dan Bitney, and their child, Max, she maintains a practice where daily life and art seamlessly blend together. Moving fluidly across painting, sculpture, animation, and live audiovisual sets in the experimental music scene, her work stays rooted in play, freedom, and constant experimentation.

Trepp’s pieces live in the world, she installs them in public spaces, projects them into storefronts, in plazas and in lobbies, as well as in galleries and museums. The goal is for the work to create a mutual experience in which people can connect.
